NHDC is a Central Sector utility and thereof Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) determines the final tariff of NHDC’s Power Stations. The CERC has approved the final tariff of Indira Sagar Power Station for the period 1.4.2004 to 31.3.2009 and also issued Order of provisional generation tariff of Omkareshwar Project for the period from 20.08.2007 to 31.03.2008 on the basis of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and Conditions of Tariff) Regulations, 2004.

The CERC determines the Annual Fixed Charges (AFC) to be recovered from beneficiary (ies) for each station. This AFC comprising of capacity charges and primary energy charges to be recovered on monthly basis as per the directions laid in the tariff orders and as per Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms & Conditions of Tariff) Regulations, 2004. The components of tariff (AFC) are Return on Equity, Depreciation & Advance Against Depreciation, Interest on Loan, Interest on Working Capital and O&M Expenses.

In ABT regime the generator has to generate as per the daily schedule finalized by Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC)/ State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC). The beneficiary (MPSEB) has to draw power from Grid as per the daily schedule finalized by SLDC. Unscheduled Interchange (UI) charges shall be imposed on the constituents of the grid who deviate from the final schedule. Presently the maximum UI rate is Rs.10.00/Kwh for over drawl below the grid frequency of 49.02Hz.
Availability Based Tariff as ordered by CERC has been implemented w.e.f. 01.04.2007 in Madhya Pradesh.
